Caring for Pewter
Pewter is considered by many an excellent material for flasks and tankards as it tarnishes more slowly than silver plate. Pewter is made predominantly from tin, antimony and copper. The antimony adds lustre and the copper adds strength. Old pewter used to have a high lead content which meant that the pewter darkened over time. Today our pewter (and solder) is lead free.

Pewter should be washed carefully in warm water and a mild detergent. Do not put in a dishwasher or use any cream cleaners or abrasives as this will scratch and the high temperatures will cause damage. Pewter can be polished with a soft cloth.
