Jacket and Waistcoat Measurements

Jacket  

With the help of a friend it's easy to take your jacket and waistcoat measurements. It is not advisable to take your own measurements.  Please use a tailor's cloth measuring tape - a steel tape measure will produce weird and wonderful results!  Simply complete the form below and submit your measurements and details to us instantly online.

The traditional highland jacket and waistcoat is short cut and does not come as low as a modern suit jacket.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us. Accurate measurements are essential and we rely on these to satisfy your order.  Once you have all the measurements do it all again and check that the results agree.

 Jacket measurements

Collar to natural waist  - Wearing a shirt buttoned at the neck, run the tape from the bottom of the collar to your natural waist.  This is in a line just above your hip-bones. A to G
Kilt jacket length - Wearing a shirt buttoned at the neck run the tape from the bottom of the collar to the point at which you would like your jacket to finish.  Kilt jackets do not generally reach as far down as a suit jacket.  If in doubt please email us for advice. A to H
Half back - Wearing a comfortable jacket, measure from the centre seam, 6 inches (15cm) down from the underside of the collar (A-B), straight across to the seam where the body is joined to the sleeve. If the jacket you are measuring from does not have a centre seam take this across the full width and then halve the measurement. This is a very important measurement - take particular care to measure this precisely.  There is no need to err on the generous side. B to C
Centre to cuff - Wearing a comfortable jacket and holding the arm horizontal with the elbow bent as shown, measure from from the centre seam (B) to the seam where the body is joined to the sleeve (C) on to the elbow (I) and on to the bottom of the cuff  (E). B to E
Around chest - Wearing a shirt and standing in a relaxed (not slouched) position with your arms loosely by your side, measure around the chest immediately under the arms across the pectorals.  The tape should not be too tight - you should be able to insert a couple of fingers under the tape. F
Around waist - Wearing a shirt stand in a relaxed position with your arms loosely by your side, measure around the waist between the bottom of the rib cage and the top of the hip bone.  Again the tape should not be too tight - you should be able to insert a couple of fingers under the tape. G
Seat - This is the measurement around the widest part of the seat (all the way round the buttocks). The tape should not be too tight - you should be able to insert a couple of fingers under the tape. H
Shoulder - Measuring direct from a comfortable jacket turn the collar up and measure from the seam where the collar is attached to the jacket along the top of the shoulder to the shoulder/sleeve seam. M-K

Shoulder to Wrist (Crown to cuff)  - This is best done wearing a jacket - ideally with the desired sleeve length.  Start the tape at the bottom of the cuff and take the measurement at the top. If you slightly stretch the sleeve this will remove any creases.

Opening - Measure from the centre of the back of the neck (O - which is the same point as A on the Jacket diagram) along the line of the cloth of the waistcoat to the point at which the waistcoat should meet.  Note this is not the position of the top button but the top of  the cloth.  Note also that this is not a straight line from O to P. O-P
Waistcoat Length - In the same manner as the Opening but this time measure to the bottom of the waistcoat. O-V
